Best Practices In Business Development

Chapter Meeting, November 11, 2005

This interactive session will be divided into 3 sections:

Quick Pitch: 25 minutes

Interactive session where attendees will create a personal "Quick Pitch" that will help them be prepared with a crisp, professional message that will help others rapidly understand:

  • Who they are
  • What they do/offer
  • How they differentiate themselves
  • Problems they solve for clients
  • How they can help

Creating Conversations: 30 minutes

Interactive session where attendees will learn how to "create

conversations" in frequently encountered business/personal settings.

Example situations are:

  • Cocktail Parties and Social Events
  • Professional Events
  • Reconnection with Former Contacts
  • Breaking through Fear with Current Contacts
  • Professional Networking for Efficiency
  • Attendees will practice identifying situations and conversation techniques with one another

Reasons To Stay In Touch: 20 minutes

  • Session that will help attendees understand how to build genuine and authentic relationships over time without seeming intrusive or needy.
  • Focuses on specific methods and appropriate timing of keeping in touch with your network.

Advance Registration and Payment by Wednesday, November 9 th: $30 for IMC Members and their guests, $40 for Non-Members. Payment at Door, add $10 to above prices. Payment can be by check or credit card in advance, or at door by check, credit card or cash.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY:
Paul Trout has over a decade of experience of in business development within the financial services, professional services, high technology and legal industries.

As an internal business development consultant for IBM, he helped multiple worldwide divisions improve their sales and marketing productivity by leveraging his strengths in strategic analysis, creative implementation and communication.

He was selected to appear in IBM's worldwide advertising campaign, "Who Do You Need?" in recognition of his work as a leading IBM Business Consultant.

Paul has also served as a business development consultant to small and mid-size professional services firms throughout the Chicagoland region in industries as diverse as telecommunications, direct advertising, publishing and jury consulting.

He is a past chairman of the Entrepreneurship Committee for the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and volunteers with Howard Brown Health Center, a community-based health services clinic.

Paul graduated with an M.B.A. in Marketing from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and a B.A. in Urban Studies and Planning from the University of California at San Diego.

DIRECTIONS

From the North:
Option 1. Tri-State to Lake-Cook road. West to first light- Sanders. Left on Sanders. Continue south of Dundee to Mission Hills CC on the left.

Option 2. Dundee Road west to Sanders (or east if coming from Northwest). South on Sanders. Continue south of Dundee to Mission Hills CC on the left.

From the South:
Option 1. Tri-State north to Willow Road exit. Left at exit. Go west about 1/2 mile to Sanders Road. North on Sanders less than 1 mile to Mission Hills CC on the right.

Option 2. 355 north to Palatine Road east. Take this east to Sanders Road (before Tri-State). North on Sanders less than 1 mile to Mission Hills CC on the right.

From the city:
Option 1. North on Edens to Dundee road - Take west then south on Sanders to Mission Hills CC on the left.

Option 2. CONSTRUCTION - NOT A GOOD OPTION: North on Edens to Willow road - Lake west when you cross over the Tri-State go west 1/2 mile to Sanders Rd. North on Sanders less than 1 mile to Mission Hills CC on the right.

From the West:
Option 1. 355 north to Palatine Road east. Take this east to Sanders Road (before Tri-State). North on Sanders less than 1 mile to Mission Hills CC on the right.

Option 2. Dundee Road west to Sanders. South on Sanders. Continue south of Dundee to Mission Hills CC on the left. Once you are at the Mission Hills CC gate, turn right and park in the lot to the right. Come in the main entrance.
