Strategic Management for Consulting Practices

In today’s rapidly changing business world, all businesses must have clear strategic intent and remain responsive to their environments. This is no different in the field of consulting.

In order to remain competitive, we must strategically manage our practices. In this session, the strategic management model and its application to consulting will be explored in detail. Emphasis will be placed on establishing clear mission/vision and conducting environmental analysis to understand your firm's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. In addition, strategy formulation and implementation will be discussed followed by strategy evaluation and control.

Dr. Tomi Wahlström received his B.A. in psychology and his M.A. in human resource management from Hawaii Pacific University , Honolulu , Hawaii , and his Doctor of Management from Colorado Technical University in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He also earned a certificate in quality management from Hawaii Pacific University.

Dr. Wahlström has taught at several institutions including University of Maryland, Colorado State University, State University of New York, Rollins College, American InterContinental University, Edward Waters College, Florida Community College at Jacksonville, and Helsinki School of Economics in Finland. He also held administrative posts at several of these institutions and also has a variety of other professional employment and consulting experiences in psychology and management. In addition, he has worked as a psychotherapist in Colorado and Hawaii.

He presently lives in Chicago, where he operates Otavala Management Consulting, a consulting firm specializing in organizational development and strategic management. He joined the Chicago School of Professional Psychology as an Associate Professor and also serves as the Program Chair at American InterContinental University Online.
